Current Situation
Umbrella currently cares for over 200 children in its 6 homes in Kathmandu; 34 children in its reintegration centre in Rasuwa, northern Nepal; has 30+ youths (18+) living in youth flats, who wither attend college or receive vocational training; and is helping to support over 70 children who are now living with their families.
Umbrella is also supporting rural schools in a number of communities in an effort to stem the flow of children who are sent to the Nepali capital with the goal of getting a good education. There is an estimated 5,000+ girls trafficked into the sex industry in India alone every year, and one of the reasons families send their children with traffickers is in the hope that they receive an education which is unavailable in the rural villages.
